رواية بنت الخال فيليس – إليزابيث غاسكل

بنت الخال فيليس: تدور القصِّة حول “بول مانينغ” البالغ من العمر تسعة عشر عاماً، والّذي ينتقل إلى الريف ليعمل في بلدةٍ ‏قريبةٍ من مزرعة الأمل التي يملكها أهل أمّه، حيث يلتقي ابنة خاله (الثانية) فيليس هولمان، الجميلة ‏والمحبوبة، التي تصغره بعامين، وتبدو مرتبكة بسبب وقوفها الصعب عند حافّة المراهقة.‏

ومع أنّ عالمها محدودٌ وضيّقٌ إلّا أنّها كانت واسعة الفكر محبّةٌ للتعلّم بشكلٍ كبيرٍ مثلما كان أبوها.‏

لقد أقرّ معظم النقّاد بأنّ (بنت الخال فيليس) هي تتويج لما أنجزته “إليزابيث غاسكل” في مجال الروايات ‏القصيرة، وهي رواية بسيطة وغير معقدة، لكنّ، إيجابيّاتها تكمن في شكل سردها وحبكتها.‏ ‎ ‎ ‏(بنت الخال فيليس) اعتبرت أيضاً خاتمة العقد لروايتها الأكثر شهرةً وإنتشاراً (زوجات وبنات)، الّتي نشرت ‏مسلسلةً في مجلة (كورن هل مغازين) من آب 1864 حتّى كانون الثاني 1866.
